I used to be incredibly anxious, unfit, had terrible skin and bad nutrition…
Now, wellness and holistic living are passions of mine. I am actively trying to implement a holistic mindset in my life using a scientific lens, and hope to encourage others to do the same. This blog is about all the information I’ve learned and will continue to learn through research on this holistic path.
I’ve always been the type of person who wanted to help others. This translated to being pre-med for years, that friend people asked health related questions to, and was always researching different topics so I knew the science behind every aspect of my life. Most of the time those topics would be related to mental health, physical health, skincare or nutrition. I’ve struggled with all of these aspects, and want to spread the tools and knowledge I’ve learned along the way and ones I will learn in the future. I have a neuroscience degree and am incredibly fascinated by the brain and science. I have always been science-oriented, and my mind is driven by evidence-based thinking. That scientist side of me has always researched topics I’m interested in and made conclusions about daily life activities based on the evidence found.
Following that mentality, I’ve always wanted to make sure I was doing everything not only properly, but in a holistic way. I am a true believer in the mind-body connection and actually think they should be considered the same thing. Our society tends to use a reductionist framework that narrows everything down to one small cause or only focuses on symptoms. Well, I think we need more and should expect more.
I aim to share the knowledge that I’ve learned along the way in the hope it helps someone else adopt the holistic lens, be a little healthier and provide the information so you don’t have to research. Adopting the holistic mindset benefits us in so many aspects of life, so I had to share what I’ve learned so far and what I will continue to learn. I am combining a bunch of my passions in this blog, these topics, science, helping others and using online platforms.
I’ve struggled with mental health, anxiety and panic attacks for as long as I can remember. I’ve dealt with the stressful decision of whether or not to pursue medication, spent numerous hours with therapists learning to reshape my thought process, figured out how to deal with panic attacks and triumphed through trauma. I am now in a good place due to all the effort I gave to healing and research about anxiety and mental health. Now, it is a passion of mine to talk about mental health issues and share the techniques and information I’ve learned to potentially help others.
I have had my waves of being a “gym go-er.” For months I could go to the gym almost every day and get the body I wanted, the feeling of being fit, and self-confidence due to my body and heightened mental health. The next few months would be the time I was “too busy” for the gym, which actually meant busy schedule and too lazy. I did that pattern for years, but as I became more knowledgeable about the body, I ended up steadying that pattern and finding an enjoyable routine that used a holistic mindset.
I’ve had my fair share of skin problems. Starting from horrible teen acne, to adult and hormonal acne, then to skin knowledge that led to clear skin. I am also incredibly fair skinned, so freckles, moles, sunburns and skin cancer are common skincare thoughts. These motivations drove me to research ingredients, skincare, products, treatments, prevention and holistic views of our skin.
As a kid, I was most definitely considered a carnivore and adventurous eater. I would order steak at every given opportunity and would be the kid in the high-chair eating mussels. Once college began, the research side of me started inching its way into this aspect of my life. I became vegetarian for both my own health benefits and for the impact on the environment. Junior year of college, I transitioned to being vegan after further research on animal products and the negative impact on our bodies. Now, I’m full vegan!
